UFC 256: One Hell of a Card

This fight card and month in general will provide a plethora of exciting fights for UFC fans. I, for one, will be drinking beer and watching faces get beat in. You just can’t beat that combo. Thank you for bringing Christmas early Uncle Dana. Without further ado, let’s see what we’re working with.

Ciryl Gane (-440) vs. Junior Dos Santos (+340)

The heavyweight division is quite possibly the deepest division with exception to lightweight division. Yes, Junior Dos Santos might be older than dirt, but he is still a big player in the heavyweight division. It is a bit astounding that he is so big of an underdog. However, Ciryl Gane comes in as hungry as ever with his last handful of fights being canceled. I think he’s going to be head hunting in this one and I would give Gane the slight edge over Dos Santos.

Kevin Holland (-115) vs. Jacare Souza (-105)

Damnit, Kevin Holland might just be the most entertaining fighter in the UFC. He talks shit in the octagon and backs it up having already gone 4-0 in 2020. He should be in the fighter of the year conversation if he is able to top Jacare Souza and go 5-0 in 2020 of all years. That’s just insane. BMF material (he has previously said he wants to fight Jorge Masvidal for the BMF belt). Souza has lost two fights in a row but hasn’t fought in over a year. He will be hungry. I like Holland by TKO in this one though. If he wins, he should be a top consideration for fighter of the year.

Mackenzie Dern (-190) vs. Virna Jandiroba (+155)

This should be an entertaining fight as both women are ranked in the top 15 of the Women’s Strawweight division. Both fighters have insane jiu-jitsu skills and they could either cancel each other out or lead to a submission for one or the other. Again, I think this fight will be close but I could see either one pulling out a submission victory. Gun to my head I’m going with Jandiroba.

Tony Ferguson (-170) vs. Charles Oliveira (+145)

This is going to be a damn good card. It’s just stacked plain and simple. I think this fight will be the most entertaining with two dudes who aren’t afraid of anything. Everyone knows the lightweight division is the deepest and most talented in the UFC. No matter who wins, a title shot might be coming their way very soon. Charles Oliveira is an extremely talented Brazilian who is tied with none other than Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone for most finishes in UFC history. He has length, aggression, and skill which make him an extremely dangerous fighter. On the other hand, Tony Ferguson wants to fight for that title more than anything. He’ll look to get back to his old form after having a slip up against Justin Gaethje for the interim championship. Tony Ferguson is just one of a kind, and I just can’t see him losing this one. I like Tony in an extremely close fight that goes the distance. Expect El Cucuy to come out with an insane motor in this one. This is the guy that would tell his first-born son, “Shut up, I was talking,” when he says his first words.

Deiveson Figueiredo (C -330) vs. Brandon Moreno (+260)

Like I said, this is a must watch card. Both of these fighters are coming off 3 weeks rest to fight for this title. Some dudes wait a whole year in between fights and these guys just don’t care. That’s some bad ass mindsets right there. Brandon Moreno is looking to add his name to a list of storied Mexican fighters with a win and flyweight championship on the line. Moreno will look to take the fight into the later rounds if he wants to get the belt. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t think he’s as dynamic as Figueiredo. Deiveson Figueiredo is taking the honor of shortest time between title defenses in UFC history at just 21 days. If he wins this fight, he gets fighter of the year no questions asked. His 2020 will then boast a 4-0 record with a title win and two title defenses. This guy might just be UFC’s next big superstar. I like Figueiredo to push the pace on Moreno and finish this one in the middle rounds.
