The Harder They Fall CBB Upsets #3
Welcome to the next edition of The Harder They Fall. Today we will talk about Ohio State, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Maryland. At this rate it will be all BIG 10 schools.
We will start with some close calls.
#13 Creighton: 66, #22 Xavier: 61
First will be #23 Ohio State upsets #11 Rutgers 80-68. The leading scorers for the Buckeyes were Duane Washington Jr with 22 points, E.J. Liddell with 21 points, Kyle Young with 17 points. They complete out-rebounded the Knights by 20 rebounds. Rutgers not having Cliff Omoruyi hurts them. I except this game to be closer next time if Cliff plays.
Next will be Minnesota upsetting #4 Iowa 102-95 in overtime with an amazing shooting performance by Brandon Johnson in overtime. The leading scorers for the Gophers were Marcus Carr with 30 points, Brandon Johnson had 26 points, Liam Robbins with 18 points. The Gophers were the better shooting team. Got out-rebounded but were the better team overall. The free-throw shooting will hurt the Hawkeyes deep in the season.
Next will be Northwestern upsetting #23 Ohio State 71-70. This game was to close for comfort for both fanbases. The leading scorers for the Wildcats were Miller Kopp with 23 points, Boo Buie with 14 points, and Pete Nance with 10 points. The Wildcats shot better than the Buckeyes. Even though neither team shot the way they normally do. This will be a fun rematch in January.
Next will be Maryland upsetting #6 Wisconsin 70-64. The leading scorers for the Terps were Eric Ayala with 17 points, Aaron Wiggins with 15 points, and Donta Scott with 12 points. This game was super close. All stats are super close besides one. That is Maryland shot 80% from the free-throw line while Wisconsin shot 53%. Free Throw shooting is key in any competitive game.
And finally, #21 Minnesota takes care of #17 Michigan State 81-56. The leading scorers for the Gophers were Marcus Carr with 19 points, Liam Robbins with 18 points, and Brandon Johnson with 9 points. So many players scored in this game for the Gophers. The Gophers shot better in this game and rebounded better in this game. The Gophers were too good this game. They had all better stats than the Spartans.
