#Euro2020 Review: MATCHDAY 8

Matchday 8 of #Euro2020 brought us our lowest scoring games in a day so far in this whole tournament. We saw three matches played across Europe today. We saw Sweden versus Slovakia, Croatia versus Czech Republic, and finally England versus Scotland.

Sweden vs Slovakia | Group E – Matchday 2 | Saint Petersburg, Russia

This game only had one goal on a boring but thrilling day of soccer. The goal was scored by RB Leipzig Midfielder Emil Forsberg. It was actually a penalty kick that Forsberg scored on. He placed the ball in the right side of the goal just beating the Slovakian goalkeeper by a few inches.

Not much happened after that, Sweden could have scored again but did not get close. When you look at the statistics of this game. You feel like this game should have gone the way it did. Just one interesting thing I seen. Slovakia actually out-possessed Sweden 57%-43% but did not have a shot on goal. This game was full of fouls and corner kicks.

The last few times these teams played. It looked like a trend. Sweden won today. The last three times, it was a draw, a Swedish win, and another draw. This trend seems to be real. I totally except these teams to draw next time according to the last four results.

With this result, Sweden goes on top of Group E varying the results in the Spain vs Poland game tomorrow morning.

Croatia vs Czech Republic | Group D – Matchday 2 | Glasgow, Scotland

Believe it or not, this game was the most interesting one today. A game that many thought would be interesting, but most people had Croatia winning. That was not the result, this game ended in a draw.

The first goal was a penalty by Patrik Schick. That is Schick’s third goal in the Euros. The penalty was off a corner kick to the middle and Dejan Lovren accidentally hit the ball with his elbow and that mistake gives Czech Republic a 1-0 to close the first half.

The second goal of the game was a absolute beauty by Ivan Perisic. Perisic was played a perfect through ball by Andrej Kramaric. Many things happened in this game but nothing impactful after the Perisic goal and the game ends in a draw.

This game deserved a draw when you look at the stats. The teams had an even 50% on the possession. Croatia only had two shots on goal and Czech Republic had only one shot on goal.

England vs Scotland | Group D – Matchday 2 | London, England

Rough to say what happened in this game. It is hard to say if England played really bad or Scotland played really well. Everyone knew this was the trap game for England in this group. This game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Each team had their chances, but no one could take advantage in this game. England had advantage of the possession 60%-40%. Each team only had one shot on goal. When I seen this game, I was like, this game will be dominated by England, or a close game and Scotland will take it. Neither of those happened.

This result gives Scotland hope on getting third in the group. England is on there way of topping the group while Croatia and Scotland will play a winner takes third game next week. It is very much looking like Czech Republic will take second in this group. Unless they beat England next week, that would mean they would get first in the group.
